Slinky – The step descending spring comes to life on the mobile phone!
We’ve all seen those large springs which you observe in both awe and frustration as you watch them descend the stairs and just about anything else you can think of in various feats of increasing risk in an attempt to get it to slink from one place to another – normally with limited success. Now, if you were like me, and found the enjoyment rather short-lived then thankfully I can now tell you about the game Slinky – which is actually just as therapeutic the real thing.
As the name suggests, you are in control of a slinky spring and must try to navigate your way through various challenging levels by overcoming obstacles (both moving and static), picking power-ups and tokens along your way and not falling off or coming a cropper.
This puzzle game has just about everything you could think of to make it highly entertaining and totally enjoyable. From colourful backdrops and themed courses to tricky twisty-turny bits and wind-up toys this game truly has it all!
These games usually have a sense of déjà vu about them and even I’d go so far in saying feel a little tired, but this actually has enough about it to warrant not just a moment of your time but several hours of thumb-twitching madness! I found myself engrossed in the environments and at times distracted by the lovely detail – which usually meant I lost a life unwittingly.
The controls are responsive enough, simply pressing the d-pad or keypad in the direction you wish to move, it takes a bit of timing and getting used to (as the grid on the screen’s at a 45 degree angle – whereas your controls are straight up, down and side to side). Fortunately, the game makers have included a helpful arrow to indicate which way you’re going to move next. The one thing to remember also is that every turn uses momentum energy, which if you’re not careful will run out; costing you a life and causing you to start the beginning (or saved position) again. This does mean you may need to apply some logic, especially when you’re trying to avoid hitting obstacles and using the surroundings to your advantage!
Ultimately, this game offers a great deal of fun and entertainment. If you’re a puzzle lover or just looking for some entertainment and distraction and have a few minutes to spare, then this is ideal for you.
