Puzzlings

Puzzlings – Can you help your character come out of the closet?

If you were to take Sack Boy out of LittleBig Planet and put it into the mobile phone then I’d imagine you’d possibly come up with something similar to this title.
You start out with a tale about a place called Wardrobia, which was a very dull place to be and there were no individuals until you, or rather your character turns up. After a quite vivid dream your character wakes up energised and keen to break the rules and look different... only, are these colourful clothes and items available in Wardrobia? Only time will tell!
Well actually not to spoil the mystery but you were bound to find out anyway, yes they are available and the only way to get to unlock all these different appearances for your character is by playing the game and successfully completing the puzzles.
In a block busting challenge, you must try to score as much as you can by swapping the colourful blocks around. Unlike Bejewelled or other similar block-busting games you get to not just swap the adjacent square, but you get to swap entire columns and rows around. The game goes a step further still and you can rotate squares at a time; for example you can swap a block of 4 or more squares in one go.
This puzzle element brings quite a large and interesting new depth to what could be seen as a tried and tested formula for puzzle lovers. I was left feeling a little surprised by this game, not in a bad way but I was picturing this game to be quite a childish one due to all the cute graphics and the bizarre upgrades you can give your character, but in truth this game’s pretty tricky but may leave the more advanced players hungry to zoom through the early stages and get to the more difficult later stages.
If you’re after a cutesy puzzle game then this will definitely suit your tastes. Fans of Bubble Bobble and Bejewelled will be certainly in their element here.  I do wonder how long the fascination will last though once you have got through the cuteness. There are three challenges in each zone as well as the tougher end of level game e.g. clearing all the blocks in as few turns as possible but for every turn you take you lose points.
Ultimately if puzzle games are your cup of tea then this will definitely give you something to keep you playing for quite a while. The longevity of the game is possibly the only blot on the horizon as I motored my way through the first stages in only a couple of minutes. The best thing about this game is that it is harmless fun and will give you a good diversion if you have a few minutes spare.
