Asphalt 4 Elite Racing – Burning Rubber’s Never Been This Much Fun!!!

I think if all the cast of Top Gear had ever got into game making then I believe it’s fair to say Asphalt 4 Elite Racing would have been the end result.

In true to form style, you are in charge of some seriously slick and powerful vehicles. Starting with a Mini, you can swiftly progress up the ranks to getting behind the wheel of some of the worlds’ most powerful cars, including the Bugatti Veyron. As with any car enthusiast, you don’t just get to race the vehicle around some of the most detailed tracks and streets in the world, but you get to pimp your ride to improve its performance not just its looks.

Although the challenges change as you play and explore the courses around the world, the rules remain pretty much unaltered – leave your opponents in your trail of rubber, smoke, car wrecks and become a media celebrity for the more reckless and turbo-charged fun you have and beat everyone to the chequered flag to make as much money as possible... oh and did I mention, try to avoid the cops?!

Although it’s not possibly the most politically correct thing to admit, but you can swiftly change from being a calm game player to becoming the largest ‘petrol-head’ known to play games. This game has it all; fast cars, enjoyable and challenging courses and a multitude of car mods and of course a few women thrown in for some good measure.

You can pick from a quick race which consists of three laps at breakneck speeds or a career mode, which is ultimately much more rewarding. As you zip and zoom around the streets you have to avoid obstacles in the form of road blocks, other vehicles and buildings but carefully drifting for additional points and money whilst picking up more nitro boosts, cash and other power ups. The career mode also unlocks more challenges as you progress up the rankings. Everything from head to head races, speed challenge and smash up every opponent to even being the cop and catching the race leader challenges are all seen in this game.

The graphics are well rendered and if you aren’t too careful you will find yourself totally immersed in this realistic game. It is a really rare opportunity to find such a well rounded and enjoyable game as this and I can’t recommend a racing game as highly as this. If there were any niggles I’d say the speed of the cars and bike (yes they’ve even got a motorbike in here too) soon makes the game ludicrously hard to judge and control with any real sense of accuracy and it swiftly becomes a blur where you are left with scoring points and money very freely so long as you can cross the finishing line first. This doesn’t really detract from the game as you of course want to unlock all the vehicles and upgrades – and this game does this quite quickly. Of course if you just want to score more through style, you can stick to the less powerful vehicles and score more credit this way.

This is by far one of the best games in its class and definitely one to add to your collection. Just try not to grin like a maniac while pressing the nitro button – I promise you, it’s hard to control yourself!
