BMW Racing – I prefer Japanese cars but I can’t really fault anyone who drives a Beamer...
With anyone who’s seen Jeremy Clarkson and the other Top Gear boys’ antics on the BBC, you’ll probably have spotted a variety of seriously fast, ludicrously torqued, insane four-wheeled cars and quite a few antics which have become talking points in a variety of circles. One of the most intriguing scores which were settled was when the Transit van was raced around the Nurberg ring in Germany and overtaking Porche’s and other more aerodynamically designed vehicles along the way. This brings me neatly round to a couple of interesting points; firstly Germans have a great circuit and seem to breed superb racing drivers and secondly, if this Transit van had been a BMW rather than a Ford (which we all know stands for Fixed or Repair Daily), this too would have ripped through the sound barrier!
OK, well perhaps the second point is stretching it a little, but honestly BMW’s have produced some seriously devastating machines. So it seems a perfect partnership to combine just a handful of the exquisite cars BMW produce and let them loose with you behind the wheel in, where else, but in the Nurberg ring.
On the table is the BMW M5 Sedan, M6, Sauber F1.07, M3 Coupe and 135i Coupe. You initially have to complete the Challenge Mode or Time Trial mode and then should you successfully complete these the entire Nurburgring awaits.
The challenge mode is largely all about making it from one line to another in one minute thirty seconds or less. Some challenges are a little more difficult though, for example achieving over 133mph or simply keeping the car on the track. This seems like quite an easy thing to achieve knowing the power under the bonnet and grip, but with the tricky corners and pace you whizz around at, it does seem quite inevitable that you’ll spend a few attempts getting through these challenges.
Overall this game has all the finesse you’d expect by anything which has BMW in the title; it’s slick, well produced, fast and enjoyable. The graphics are well rendered, the cars all look super and lovingly crafted on the screen and the challenges all provide you with excellent fun. Whether you’re after a quick lap or more of an endurance race you have all that you could ever want in this game. It’s definitely one for the car connoisseur and gives you a fantastic taste of what it would be like behind one of these great cars on one of the most challenging circuits in the world.
