Whoever came up with this game must have been looking at the contents of a packet of sweets and in a sugar rushed moment decided that it would be a quirky game. However this game came about, the funny thing is they actually managed to make a great way to kill time.
This game is all about timing and reaction whilst pushing yourself as far as you dare. As with all extreme sports, base jumping is arguably an accident just waiting to happen, and if this game’s anything to go by, that’s exactly what you’ll have if you fail to pull the chute’s rip-cord at the right time.
Base Jumping for those of you not in the know, is when you find a suitably high building or rock to hurl yourself off of and then let gravity take its course. Then, when your nerves have taken as much as they can, you pull the cord to your parachute and try to land safely (or just survive).
As in reality, this game follows the same pattern and goes into two elements. Firstly you must wait for the word ‘Go’ to appear on the screen before you can throw yourself off the ledge in a race to the ground against three other equally proficient opponents. Secondly, it’s down to you to pull the cord and deploy your parachute before you hit the ground.
This game definitely will challenge your nerves of steel as well as your reaction speeds. The rewards for touching the ground first are that you receive 10 points, next seven, then four and nothing for last place. You get to jump three times before you get to either be promoted or relegated to the next league.
In all there are five levels to master and then when you’ve proven how good you are, you get to challenge the base jumping ‘king’. When you manage to beat them twice you’ll be crowned king and your score will be recorded.
For me, this is a bit of an abrupt end to your jumping experience, particularly when you get into the swing of things. However, this does mean that you’ll keep playing for longer in an attempt to beat your best score.
Funnily enough, much like the real thing, if you are too eager in leaping, you’ll see your character (a blue blob) get caught in a bucket – which will cost you dearly as it effectively gives your opponents a free jump. However, if you jump a little late, you’ll have to run the risk of not pulling your cord until the last moment – which means you could end up squished on the floor. Fortunately, you can buy health back, but it does cost you money and points.
Ultimately, this game’s got plenty of fun and does get under your skin if you let it. The cute graphics and simplistic gameplay and style makes this game a great addition to anyone’s gaming collection.
