Slice It! – Maths can be fun... no, seriously!
There used to be a time when games were simply there to distract and entertain us all in our downtime. In the more recent times however, games have been veering towards either of two things, edutainment or physically demanding.
Well thankfully this game isn’t going to make you run around swinging your arms around to the beat, instead it firmly lends itself to the more mentally stimulating category. The aim of the game is pretty simple – to divide the shapes into evenly sliced portions.
To do the slicing you must start from outside the object and then drag a straight line across to the other desired position. You must pick your starting position carefully as you have then committed to that starting point. As the game progresses the difficulty is increased. So what becomes a straight forward game of halving and slicing objects into thirds and quarters, you must then work out ways of dividing the objects into eighths and even more minute segments.
As with any division, there are more than one ways to cut things up the right way. For example a square can be cut into quarters either by squares or triangles. With this in mind, the less obvious option will more likely be the right one for you to choose – and yes, although you can cut in straight lines, you may end up with weird trapezoid shapes rather than more regular rectangles and so on.
In short, my maths teacher would have loved this game (he used to make puzzles as a lucrative side project), and despite not touching a single bit of trigonometry since leaving school, this game is certainly addictive and I dare anyone to tell me anything otherwise – this game is number one for a reason, it’s simply great!
Slice It! is a superb triumph for educational games that are not overtly that way. It’s really straight forward and if you ever find yourself stuck you can usually ask for a hint to get you started (or show you where you’re going wrong). For doing well you are rewarded with hints and extra bonus points.
Most importantly, you must be precise with your slicing. Much as a surgeon would be, one or two millimetres out in either way can not only cost you valuable points but also the level. More times than I care to recall I’ve ended up having one too many slivers here and there!
Overall, you will likely be finding yourself squinting at the screen as you carefully slice up the objects. In the simplest way, download this app now, you won’t regret it!

The accuracy of the slicing can be a little screwy at times
If you accidentally start to slice in the wrong place it’s a bit of a nightmare getting on the right track
Creating your own puzzles would have made this an epic title
