2010 Ultimate Tennis Hard Court – Smashing fun!
Tennis, the game of kings and champions has been increasingly popular ever since it’s been televised. Although this game isn’t in the familiar settings of Wimbledon, it is more like its foreign counterparts in America’s Flushing Meadows – which would make sense as it’s Hard Court rather than lawn!
All that you would really expect is found in this game and one or two little extras. Unlike many other tennis titles I could mention, this not only plays and behaves the way you would like and expect it to, but you get some neat little features like the stats after the game and records which keep you in the know regarding the skills and achievements you have had in your career.
The controls either work by using the d-pad or the keypad. Using the 5 or OK key serves or hits the ball, using the corresponding buttons shoots the ball in the direction desired (i.e. far corner, centre court or drop shots over the net). You can lob and do powerful passing shots, stroke the ball all over the court and get an epic rally going worthy of more than the game point!
Selecting between the opposition being easy or hard means that as your game improves as do the opponents. You can pick from four different players with slightly different abilities; speed, power, accuracy and serve. This means you can choose the right player to suit your ability and technique; moreover you can surprise yourself and try your skills using another player.
Although this game is a little less sleek than some of the bigger branded games, the entertainment and fun is certainly making this a good contender. Watching your player punch the air in delight after a winning shot or hanging his head in disbelief when losing a point are really nice touches and reflect the feeling you get from playing this game.
The match-winning difference this game has is that each game is totally different and the opponents do serve up some wicked challenging and unpredictable shots which will test your reflexes and creativity to their limit. Although I did stroll through the easy setting, the hard setting certainly posed a challenge. Again this is great for just brief matches or more complete competitions.
