One Man Army – One Man Army, sitting on the wall...
It seemed almost only a matter of time that some genius at Fugu Mobile would jump onto the bandwagon that is to put the world to rights by tackling global terrorism.
Ironically the message behind this title is to tackle global terror through being a one man army. This is a bit of a paradox because tackling terrorism through being a vigilante is surely terrorism too? Putting this absurdity to one side the title appears as a kind of Time Crisis style game, with the obvious difference of it being a third person view rather than first person.
Your character takes place at the base of the screen behind a box or post box etc. What you must do is shoot at the various terrorists who appear on the screen and fire upon your position. To shoot, you must move the red crosshair around the screen by using the d-pad or keypad and pressing the 5 or OK button to fire. The only problem is, that by moving the crosshair around the screen, you pop up into the line of sight of the enemy – meaning that you’re able to be shot. The way to avoid being shot is to duck out of the way, which is automatic – by not pressing any key. This game then becomes a bit of cat and mouse action by timing your movements right, you’ll be able to clear the streets of these terrorists, but by getting your timing wrong (when the terrorists are firing at you) you’ll end up being wounded and even dead.
You are scored on killing the terrorists and by keeping a clean bill of health. However, you must eliminate as many enemy’s as possible within the time allotted. If you don’t (either due to losing your life or running out of time) then it’s game over. On the plus side, your ammo’s unlimited and it’s quite challenging, particularly when you have to clear the fifth and final level of 40 terrorists within time.
However on the flip-side, you can shoot at one terrorist who keeps popping up a few seconds later to take another shot. It goes without much saying then that if you keep your cursor in the same place and firing selectively, you’ll more likely than not get through the earlier levels. But of course if you push things a little more, you’ll be rewarded more and no doubt get a higher score.
Ultimately, this game is quite good for a quick-shot challenge. It’s not in quite the same leagues as some of the other titles available, but definitely enjoyable enough and worthwhile playing.
