Plikpla

Plikpla – Tetris becomes eggcellent

Tetris is an absolute classic game, fact! So whenever a game comes along riding on its coat-tails in an attempt to emulate or improve on the classic blockbusting game it really has to be something different or just stupendously mind-blowing to step into the same limelight.
Plikpla is certainly a good modern take on the classic Tetris. Rather than having the odd shaped blocks you have two colourful eggs which you must try to connect into batches of three or more. As opposed to clearing the row, your eggs will evolve and combine until eventually they hatch. For example a when you match a row of three green and red shelled eggs, they will merge and transform into a red and black shelled egg. It’s then down to you to find two (or more) similar looking eggs to join to this red and black shell for it to then turn into a solid black shelled egg. Again this pattern’s repeated with finding two or more black eggs to match and then the black egg will hatch and your score will increase and the level will increase when you’ve hit a certain score.
As with many other good blockbuster puzzle style games, as your level raises, the speed and difficulty will increase. At first these increases are quite pedestrian, but swiftly they will have a cumulative affect which will make this simple game more and more difficult.
Plikpla is quite a good game, and to its credit it doesn’t try to resemble similar blockbusting games much. The cute graphics and evolution of the egg means you have a lot more to think about to try and clear enough space for all the other eggs which are to come. I definitely think if you have liked other Tetris like games then this will be a natural progression to keep your thumbs twitching and head hurting with all the fast paced action.
Ultimately, this game is fantastic fun and suitable for anyone with a sweet spot for falling piece puzzle games. The game’s simplistic controls work very neatly and allow you concentrate on getting the eggs into the right place and scoring more points. Although I believe the graphics could be a little larger and clearer to see, the detail is sharp and overall this doesn’t detract much from the whole package.
