Diamond Twister – Diamond’s are a girls’ best friend... especially when they’re a puzzle game!
Do you enjoy puzzles? Do you like diamonds? Well if you do you’ll probably love Diamond Twister!
If you have found yourself playing for hours on Bejewelled then you will be delighted to see this game come to your mobile phone. In honesty there’s only a few subtle differences between the two titles – mainly being in story mode, you don’t have epic sessions but race against the clock, and if you run out of moves the jewels are reshuffled so you can carry on playing.
In story mode you must travel around the world cracking various criminals and corrupt famous people’s safes. You are targeted with each level to reach an ever increasing cash goal within the allotted time – do it and you progress to the next level, fail and you must replay the mission.
This game’s pretty good in terms of having a frantic race against time rather than a play it until you can’t possibly move anymore type of game. To make it a little less predictable and challenging, you’ll find power-ups come into play as you make three or more combos and chain reactions. Some power-ups will blow up all the adjacent precious stones on the grid, others will remove an entire row of stones – which contribute to your cash total. The best power up however is the one which cycles through all the available stone colours and when you trigger it, this instantly blows up any stone of that colour on the screen. When done correctly you’ll clear nearly all the screen, but make a hash of it and you’ll end up not really any better off.
This element in the game does make for some pretty interesting results. Within one or possibly two moves you could effectively clear the level. When playing this happened a couple of times and it took some of the fun out of the challenge, but when playing for a good hour or so, it’s not too bad.
As mentioned, the game offers hours of entertainment and regardless of if you complete all the increasingly difficult levels, there’s only so far you can get through the game with wits alone and at times the only thing that lets you progress to the next stage is a dose of good luck.
The only critical thing I can say about this game is that the game and challenge never really differs from one level to the next. Some stages you have a smaller grid to use or you get special squares which double or triple your score when activated. Sometimes there are odd shaped grids to navigate your way round, but if you work fast and can spot the possible combos you’ll whizz your way through the level and be onto the next stage within no time at all.
In challenge mode those of you familiar with the ‘endless’ mode will be pleased to see it here amongst, ‘magic stones’, ‘reveal letters’, ‘time is money’, ‘flip mania’, ‘gem collector’, ‘puzzle’ and ‘forget me not’ levels.
So if you like puzzle games, you should pick up this little gem of a title... it’s a total steal!

Lots and lots of different levels
Plenty of game styles
Highly addictive and enough to make this title hold its own against more known titles
Negatives
Quite repetitive
Skill itself doesn’t necessarily mean anything and luck can play a bigger part
