Brain Exersise 3 with Doctor Kawashima – Doctor, Doctor, my head’s hurting!
It seems a constant desire for human nature to improve themselves and become the very best they can be in every possible way. For some of us the Olympics is way out of our reach, so it seems the smarter option to try to improve our grey matter between our ears. Fortunately for those of us who are looking for some mental stimulation, Brain Exercise 3 with Doctor Kawashima is incredibly thorough and continues where the previous two left off.
So what do you expect to get from Brain Exercise 3? Well, you get to challenge the various parts of the brain by taking daily challenges. For example, you can focus on the areas of the brain which work out numeracy, logic and many more besides.
If you want to inject a little more humour and a bit of a theme to the games then take a moment to play the Story Mode. In this setting you get to attend college and see your character progress through a variety of classes which will challenge you mentally in every aspect you can possibly conceive. Most of these games are multiple choice, for example you will have to try and work out what day of the week it will be if it was a Friday on the 15th of February and today’s 21st. Alternatively, you have to work out which way is the quickest route for you to take to get out from the centre of a maze, with four available exits. The main challenge to these is that you will need to not just be accurate with your answer but also fast with coming up with the solution too. Interestingly you get your results after the successful completion of these tests and this range from a single cell amoeba (if you’re slow and or wrong with the majority of your answers) through a variety of animals (like a dog and a giraffe!) and then human.
If like me, you discover you’re more closely linked with single cell organisms, and you can’t progress to the other games in this story mode, you may wish to try and improve your results by applying some effort in the Brain Training mode. This gives you the opportunity to try to improve your brain power and mental age (and agility) one game at a time.
If you don’t have lots of time to play, you can pass the minutes away playing the unlocked mini-games in the Quick Play mode.
The most revealing thing about this game is just how, through failing to do any proper mental stimulating tests, your mind does start to resemble mush rather than something intelligent. The great news is that after quite a few games, your skills and your mind power will start to improve. I know I’m still some way off being the next Albert Einstein, however, I can work out figures a lot quicker and am swifter in dealing with mazes – not that I think I’ll ever really need to call upon this skill in most day to day life?!
So if you want to play something which will have a beneficial effect on you mentally, you can certainly do a lot worse than giving Brain Exercise 3 with Doctor Kawashima a go. Although it does take a little bit of getting used to, it’s worthwhile applying the patience and effort.
