MotoGP 2010

MotoGP 2010 – Get your motor runnin’

Petrolheads out there will be no doubt delighted to hear about the MotoGP 2010 title. Of course the game’s not quite as good as the real thing (except for the falling off bit), but it is certainly one of the finest racing game on two wheels to grace the iPhone/iPod touch.
Famous racing faces and all their realistic riding attributes appear in this lovingly created game. There is really nothing which is left out, and anything that is was probably not worth mentioning anyway. The realistic detail of the sponsors on the leathers, helmet and bike all are recreated for your viewing and gaming experience and all the pleasure that ensues from opening the throttle fully.
Whether you’re looking for a rapid race around any of the world circuits or want to test your abilities in a tournament, you are in for a treat. Of course to make the game a little more fun and unpredictable, you have the choice of engaging your turbo booster – but be careful not to overdo it as the turbo will need to cool down if you race at top speed for too long. Depending of the driver, the boost’s effects vary from short but powerful to a little faster but longer lasting. Steering uses the motion controls – turning from side to side by varying degrees will cause your bike to turn gradually or sharply.
Although the acceleration is key, it’s arguably more important to use the brakes and acceleration from the corners to really prove yourself as champion of the track. To brake, simply tap the left hand side and you slow down or stop entirely.
As with any driving game sticking to the track like glue is vital if you’re looking to stay one step ahead of the completion. If you are a fan of blasting around the track at breakneck speeds then you will rapidly learn that it’s not so good watching the other racers nip along your inside line as you find yourself watching from the gravel traps lining the corners.
Of course this game does allow for the odd bit of showboating. Using your boost you may get to see your rider wheelie along the track – which certainly gets you more style points if you’re overtaking or zooming through the finishing line at the time.
You receive points for finishing (preferably in first place) and you get awards for reaching certain benchmarks in the game. If you would like to get familiar with the track and work your way up the starting places you can do a qualifying round.
So is this the ultimate racing game on two wheels? Quite possibly! For all the thrills and spills, speed and excitement, this game is tough to beat and certainly will appeal to anyone who enjoys driving at their limits.

Negatives
No option to change the view – looking from behind the windshield would have been perfect
A little fiddly for novice drivers but you’ll get the knack if you stick with it
