Puzzler World – The most thorough puzzle compendium for your iPod
Before games on the mobile phone became popular or even that good, people would play boardgames and puzzles. Some games were quite a social event whilst others are more private i.e. compare the antics of twister to a crossword. Alright, maybe that’s not the fairest comparison but you get the idea.
Puzzler World offers you just about every puzzle type and one or two more for good measure. Word games like word searches, fit word and codeword, to numerical puzzles like equate and Sudoku to picture games such as spot the difference, link-a-pix.
To start with you have 240 games to master and quite a few of these have bonus games to complete in challenge mode. Another benefit for trying your luck with these games is that as you progress you get to unlock more challenges and games to play in the quickplay game setting. Also if you get to complete one of the games you get rewarded with three boxes which you must choose from and the prize could offer you hint tokens (which are great if you get stuck) and other sorts of cool things.
If you don’t think that 240 games are enough you can unlock more by buying more game packs. This is a little bit frustrating as I’d personally wish to not have any restrictions or unlock levels as a reward for my progress. However, there’s plenty of games to keep most average gamers busy.
I found most of the games really well laid out and a breeze to navigate round. The text input for the crossword puzzle would have benefited from either the QWERTY keypad input or the normal keypad number option as I found myself mistyping things quite frequently which was a little frustrating but not enough to put me off.
The Sudoku game uses numbers 1 to 6 rather than the usual 9. This does make the game a little easier but again, it’s not a bad thing really and great, like all the other games, for keeping you occupied when you have a few moments to spare.
Overall then, this is a really comprehensive puzzle game which will keep you guessing and franticly tapping away for hours, and when you’ve got through those first levels you can add some more! The game only just misses out due to the little cumbersome input controls, but otherwise this scores very highly across the board and you would be mistaken if you didn’t have this app in your iPod!
Rating 74%
Positives
Lots and lots and lots of games
Plenty of levels to challenge yourself with
Great for gamers of all ages
Negatives
A little fiddly inputting letters (it could benefit from dragging and dropping or using the keyboard)
The screen moves when linking up numbers in link-a-pix making it quite hard to draw correctly
Unlocking more levels should either be paid for or rewarded for your hard efforts
