If you feel as though your mind’s not being as sharp as it used to be then it could be about time to try one of the brain training games which you can find – but which one?
Fortunately that choice has been made a whole load easier with the latest edition of Brain Tester 24 Pack Volume 2. This is a series of mini games where you can increase your skills and abilities by challenging your memory, visual and audio skills as well as logic, problem solving and a few more for good measure.
Unlike many other games out there which focus solely on the improvement of your mental abilities, you are also given the rewards of the evolution of a cute Spore-like Furby kind of creature. As you play along and unlock all 24 mini-games available in this game, you are rewarded by points, and these are translated in the development of your character. There are four stages of development, and several zones to focus on, e.g. eyes, hands, feet and ears etc. This offers two purposes, one to force you to not just specialise in one area and tax your brain a little bit more in areas which may be not such a hot topic. The other reason is it keeps you quite addicted to the game for possibly longer than you would be otherwise. Needless to say, these two reasons are pretty good on their own, and together provide fantastic double-whammy!
If you’re thinking that this all could be just a little bit too much to bite off for you, don’t worry, every stage has instructions which clearly spell out the objective(s) and the controls are very simplistic – making this a great game for older and younger players get to grips from the first key-press. Another neat feature that this game offers over other similar titles is the ability to improve by playing each game over and over as much as your heart contents. Other titles I’ve experienced lock the game for a full 24 hours, which rather stunts the fun factor and playability – although may give you more accurate results in measuring your improvements. This repeat play function not only allows you to play often but boosts the evolution of your odd/cute character.
In a nutshell, with 24 games to play you will not be easily bored or swift to put this game down. The cute character adds a novel approach and additional addictive quality which isn’t found elsewhere (as far as I know anyway). As your skills improve you unlock more games and this keeps you coming back for more. All in all, this is a very complete package, perhaps not quite as serious or as factual in terms of testing your grey matter as much as certain other products, but on the whole, it provides you with a great all-round edu-tainment package.
