If you are a bit artistic and also enjoy brain games then SudoPix is definitely going to spark an interest.
In SudoPix you have a grid of squares and numbers which are indicators along the outside of the grid. What you are challenged to do is try and work out which squares in the grid need to be filled in and which ones you should leave blank which gives you a pixelated image.
Although you play against the clock, what really costs you are your mistakes. Every time you guess incorrectly a small cross will appear in the box for your first attempt you’ll lose a couple of minutes off your time, which doubles for the next mistake and so on. As you can probably imagine, you’ll only need to make four or five mistakes and you’ll be probably lose the round and will be forced to try again to move onto the next stage.
There are fifteen pictures per theme and there are five themes, making a total of 75 pictures to try and work out. To begin with, you’ll be given quite an easy challenge, with only having a 5x5 grid, which won’t really challenge you too much but gives you a good idea on what to expect. This soon gets increased to a 10x10 and a 15x15 grid for the majority of levels.
You can’t hop between each theme unless you’ve managed to unlock them by completing all of the previous levels. Themes include animals, various (well known symbols etc.), space, music, nature and sport. The pictures are varied in difficulty, some are a little more challenging than others – particularly when they’re not mirror images. From my experience you can end up losing the game by trying to guess the illusive square through being too eager.
Ultimately then, this game offers more entertainment and quite a bit of mental stimulation than most games for your mobile. Being scored against the clock as well as for how many mistakes you make per level, means you can get more by being quick as well as a perfectionist.
In truth you’ll probably get several hours of solid entertainment from this title before you manage to complete all the levels. As a reward for successfully completing a theme, you can choose to change the skin/background in the level for future games. Sadly the thing which I found lacking in this game is the options to create or have someone else create puzzles for you to try your hand at. It’s all rather nice that you can get to enjoy the 75 images, but there’s not much in the way of repeat play once you’ve managed to do them all.
So if you enjoy puzzles and appreciate art and want to do something like Sudoku but aren’t much of a mathematician, then SudoPix is definitely a great little game for you!
