Retro Snaker

The simple and yet tantalising and tricky classic game Snake has been brought to life once again in a superbly retro monochrome incarnation.
Retro Snaker does exactly what it says on the label, it looks like Snake, feels like Snake and does all that Snake should do – by keeping your fingers and mind busy in an addictive and entertaining way. No doubt the old green and black screen will bring to many gamers a broad smile. This game represents just what a truly brilliant game was and forever will be – by focusing on gameplay and entertainment value rather than pretty pictures. By doing this approach you have the perfect ingredients in making an all time hit for all mobile gamers.
There are several game modes to pick from. In Classic mode you are tasked to achieve the best score without any obstacles hindering your progress. For those who prefer navigating your way round the board with more challenges then the Obstacles mode. Labyrinth mode challenges you to move around the board to gobble up all the food without bumping into the maze of walls. Finally, the Arcade mode lets you go through all the levels by munching your way round all the food and growing your snake from a tiny rattler to an anaconda! In this version you don’t have any walls in your way but will have some good and nasty power-up to pick up or avoid. These range from shortening your snake, ‘breaking’ your screen for a spell of time, temporarily confusing your controls to speeding or slowing your snakes’ movement. And yes, this game uses the same basic yet effective controls (up, down, left and right or 2, 8, 4 and 6).
In brief then, this game has something for everyone. For the quick fix players who just have a few minutes spare at the end of the day, this game provides excellent time-killing potential – so long as you can put it down in time and remember whatever it was you were waiting for! For the gamers who seek something a little more stimulating for the mind then you’ll have a great time trying to navigate your way round and picking up all the objects and power-ups whilst avoiding the walls and obstructions.
Now that mobile phones no longer come pre-installed with this pocket full of joy this is definitely the right game to pick up to fill that gap in your game collection. You will be able to enjoy this at a moments notice and either enjoy a pick up and play style game or something much more competitive and longer lasting.

Positives
Very retro and very fun
Enjoyable and addictive
Simple controls that are reactive
Some nice touches to the game to add some creativity

Negatives
Unfortunately the music’s not improved much over the years
The same frustrating pangs as you crash into yourself on the way round
It’s a shame you can’t create your own labyrinth
