Snake Revolution

Do you think you’re the undisputed master of the classic snake game? Then you may just want to try your slithery luck with Snake Revolution!
If you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years then you may not have a clue about what Snake is or what to do… Well, basically you have to manoeuvre your snake around the screen without bumping into walls or obstacles whilst trying to pick up all the food. This sounds pretty straight forward, and it is – apart from one important detail, your snake grows with every goodie you’ve gobbled along the way.
This is a very true to the original style Snaker, as in you move your snake about the screen and what starts out as a relatively simple task of munching on ‘stars’, quite quickly gets more challenging as your snake grows and grows – proving to be more of an obstacle than helpful. The classic version of the game is all about scoring as much as you can by eating as much as you can and surviving as long as you can.
The ‘Snake World’ game is a nice twist to the classic. What starts out as a bit of a mysterious hunt for the Princess Snake rapidly evolves into a more difficult game. Of course with all the stars you eat, the longer your snake grows, which poses a bit of a health risk to your score, but also the map evolves and proves to be a brute of a course at times.
Obstacles aren’t so bad, from time to time, you’ll find a mushroom appear which when you eat causes your snake’s head to grow and more importantly allows you to munch your way through obstacles like logs – which would otherwise cause you to crash out early from the game.
Another object you’ll see is the snail, which will slow your snakes movements down. This is a mixed blessing as on the one hand you’ll have more time to move your snake around the screen and avoid hitting things, but on the other, your timing could go a little off and may actually help you bump into things if you’re not on the ball. As with many Snaker style games out there, you get to pick the speed at which your snake moves from slow, normal, fast and (suicidally) very fast.
For me, this is a cute and well detailed and thoroughly enjoyable version of the original game. The classic version does provide quite a challenge – particularly when trying to beat my hi-score. The story mode gives a lot more of a run for your money and will certainly challenge you more and more as you progress. Fortunately, the option is there at the end of each level to either jump to the next level by following the rainbow gate that appears, or try to improve your score by greedily snapping up the bonus stars. One thing to remember is that being too greedy could be your undoing!
