Have you ever watched the F1 racing cars on TV and thought you (or indeed your mother) could drive better than that? Well now’s your chance to get behind the wheel of an F1 racing car and prove your worth on the tarmac.
In Williams F1 Team you have an incredible depth of realism and playability which is hard to find in any racing game, particularly for the mobile market. In this dynamo of a racing game you get to select not just from a practice game (where you can freely drive around the course of your choice) but also how much acceleration you wish, down-force generated from the rear aerofoil and tyres.
Should you want to just get stuck right into a race you can have an ‘Instant GP’ where you’ll find yourself at the back of the grid with 4 laps to try and work your way up the field. Your opponent’s will not make this task any easier for you either, some will be doing their hardest to block any overtaking moves you try, the whole time letting the leaders edge further and further away.
Alternatively if you have a bit more time on your hands when racing, why not use the option to play ‘Custom GP’ mode. This allows you to select the track (from 15 courses with varying degrees of difficult turns, laps etc.) and also whether you want to have any opponents on the grid, difficulty setting (easy, normal or hard), authenticity of grip (realistic or arcade), fuel consumption (on or off) and car damage (on or off). As in practice mode you also get to tweak with the cars settings to suit your driving style.
If you fancy seeing how you do in a season then you have the option to play ‘Championship Season’ mode. In this mode you have all the previous modifications you could ever ask for to tinker with, but of course you have the entire 15 courses to try and master in the aim of being the new Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button or Michael Schumacher.
If all you want is a decent racing game then this is a great buy for you. However, if you are looking for a more in depth and ultimately rewarding game then again this is the most perfect title I’ve come across so far – simply put I couldn’t recommend it enough.
The games authenticity is potentially the only downfall to what otherwise is a very decent motoring game. True you can play with your car to your hearts content, so you can make it have a fast or slow acceleration (to make it more ‘realistic’ or difficult as you see fit), but you can’t do much about the laps you must do when playing and must therefore do more than 55 laps before seeing the chequered flag. As you can imagine, this isn’t a sprint, rather a marathon effort and to complete all tracks will take you several hours.
However, as I mentioned, this game is totally authentic and allows a lot more fun due to the depth of play at hand.
Rating 94%
Positives
Very authentic and can either be played as a regular game or let you tweak your car
Plenty of courses to keep you practicing and playing
Various difficulty settings
Can be realistic or arcade to suit your preference
Graphics and sounds are pretty good
Negatives
The car’s pretty flimsy should you turn damage setting on and you’ll be forced to retire within only a few laps if you’re not extremely careful
You can’t modify the number of laps – so be prepared for a long game
