Do you think you’ve seen it all? Well take a closer look at Coin Flipper, arguably one of the worst ideas brought to life for use on the mobile phone.
I’m seldom lost for words but seriously this is really leaving me pretty dumbfounded. Let me begin, Coin Flipper is designed for someone who can’t make a decision between two options. As you can imagine, you can spin a coin and yes, it either lands on heads or tails! True, not everyone has a coin to hand so this may help to eliminate these awkward “do I? / don’t I?” moments, but I can’t honestly ever imagine such a life or death decision which can’t wait until you find a coin to flip or just free your mind and think outside of the box here and go with either your gut instinct or your head!
For those who enjoy coins, there’s a ‘cool’ feature which allows you to swap between different coin denominations. So if you want to use a pound you can, alternatively use a Euro or US dime (or a few others that I can’t tell you where they’re from) to spice it up a little.
Frankly if you use this application you really need to take a cold hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself a question (preferably without needing a coin to help you answer), am I truly unable to choose one thing over another? If the answer is no then you are able to feel empowered by this reaffirming and positive answer; however should you answer yes, then seek professional help or just ask someone else you trust implicitly to decide for you!
If the depths of this application couldn’t be made any worse, think again! By flipping the coin you would imagine that the sound effect would imitate the reality of the action on screen - oh no, not here! When pressing the flip button I was stunned to find that a few moments after the coin had stopped spinning you got the ‘ping’ noise. To its credit, this made me chuckle a little out of sheer disbelief.
OK, perhaps I’m being a little unkind about this application. I know a little about impartial algorithms and 50/50 chance – as I do have a bit of experience in gambling. From using this application I was quietly impressed by how ‘impartial’ this proved to be. Naturally I don’t have the time to test it for thousands of spins but it did act as you would expect and there was no obvious pattern used during my trial.
In brief, this is an idea that someone had to come up with at some point and this is well done but offers little or no entertainment but does offer impartial guidance on making quick decisions. The artworks’ nice, the sound is sluggish as is the flip button response at times. This could be useful in case you don’t have any pocket change to hand and who knows, perhaps it will replace the traditional coin-toss at the beginning of football games?
Rating 25%
Positives
Could be used to help with ‘professional gamblers’ as it uses a even chance algorithm
Well detailed coins
Negatives
The makers of this application had to be flipping out of their mind!
The sound effects react late
No addictive quality at all
