The famous call of ‘The Price is Right... Come on down!’ used to be heard on many Saturday evenings when watching the television in my household. True this game show did fade away into more obscurity when more popular TV shows came to our screens.
Happily I’m able to report the classic game show has returned to our screens, well... mobile screens at least! Attention to detail has been painstakingly given to this title, from the cheesy and arguably dated game show backdrops to the prizes you have to guess the prices of. Some are digital images, some are representative drawings. Even the details about the items to guess the prices of have been included in this game.
The drawbacks of this game are quite a few. Firstly, no matter if you win or if you lose, you won’t receive a single penny of your takings or indeed any of the prizes on show. Big shock, I know, but I had to get over it and so must you. I’ll let you compose yourself first before moving on... Ok, another drawback to this game is that you will likely lose quite a bit at first, but not to worry, this in itself is quite useful, should you be able to learn how much these items cost. This is because the name of the game is to estimate the closest to the actual price of the item(s) shown but not to a penny more, or else you lose!
Well, if you learn how much these items are worth (and yes, the list is far from endless) you will be able to win this game hands down, or at least get to the final stages. If you care to play the mini-games, you can enjoy these in either the random order as part of the big game or play them in quick rounds.
In essence this is a very true incarnation of the game show, as such you will either be the winner or loser. It will be a very quick round and game if you get the first round wrong, the next screen you’ll see will simply ask you if you want to play again, with a yes or no option. To be honest I was tempted to click no after quite a few attempts of not getting anywhere near the correct price. I do sometimes wonder what era these items are in, as I’d never imagine the cost of them being anything near what they end up being. Perhaps the items are being priced in American dollars instead of pounds sterling?
Anyway, in summary, this is a realistic and fairly entertaining title but I do think that it’s only going to be addictive if you are a true fan of the show. In reality you will likely find it all too repetitive and the variations on a theme not varied enough to keep you truly engaged. I would liked to have seen a lot more variation in terms of items, but in another way, I’m glad that it’s not too extensive as realistically you would stand little or no chance in beating the competition.
