Although strictly speaking the only resemblance to tennis (except the hair cuts on the players) this game has, is the court marked out on the grass, tar and ice – OK, grass mainly. With four characters to pick from (three cavemen and one cave-woman – although you’ll find it hard to tell the difference!) you have a very basic control system, 5 or OK button to toss the ball, then again or 1 or 3 to direct the ball into the corresponding direction. As with most games timing is helpful when hitting the ball as to defining a match winning stroke or knocking the Flintstone-esque Dino umpire off his perch.
The different courts have a slightly different feel, as you would expect, the balls fly a lot faster over the ice court than the grass – but your player is able to move faster than the opponents which makes up for the opposition player being able to hit nearly every ball you send their way.
This game is definitely quite a challenge and if you like, you can post your scores online to compare with others… if, like myself you A) don’t want to pay for the privilege or B) are quite terrible at this game, this is definitely not worth your time.
Jurassic Tennis is certainly quite a hit for its cuteness and tricky thumb tangling antics. The ability to play this one handed proved impossible as hitting the ball and running left and right too the use of both hands to stand a chance in defeating the opposition.
If you’re looking for a fun, basic and quite challenging game then this is certainly worth buying as it ticks all the right boxes. However, if you’re looking for a much more accomplished and professional tennis game, then definitely look at one of the other titles available as unfortunately for ‘serious’ tennis fans, you will be left feeling rather short-changed. In either case however this tennis game is certainly a smash and will definitely prove a hit for anyone looking to kill a few minutes – just remember this game is just for fun as with the immortal words of a well known player who definitely resembled one of the characters available to play – You cannot be serious?!
Rating – 60%
Positive
Games are quite short
Progress is saved and can be uploaded to compare with other players
Fun and quite addictive
Although game difficulty can’t be changed, it’s quite unpredictable and challenging.
Negatives
Fairly basic graphics
Not diverse enough – could do with more players or designing your own caveman/woman
Novelty factor wears off all too quickly and left with a poor tennis substitute
Can’t adjust difficulty level
No career mode or any changeable settings (apart from turning the sounds on/off)
