Dust down your board and prepare yourself for some snow-covered half-pipe action in the form of Extreme Air Snowboarding.
For all of you who seek the adrenaline rush that an extreme sport can offer but wish to get the thrill in the comfort of your own armchair then this game’s definitely worth a look. Whether you’re keen to do as many tricks as you can within the length of the run or simply want to beat the clock, you have found the right game for you.
As with any game, it’s best to get yourself familiar with the controls and the tricks so you can execute the best twists, flips and grabs with ease. For this, launch the tutorial section and you’ll be given set tasks to achieve, some easy, others much trickier. Once you’ve got yourself familiar with the game and the moves, it’s onto the slopes you go for the real fun to begin!
In Career Mode you are given a number of tasks to achieve before you get to the finishing line. Often you will be given a score to beat which can only be achieved by doing tricks. To get the best score you must get your snowboarder up to speed and attack the slope and come off the edge of the ramp to get as much air time as you can. Once you’ve flying high you can pull off helicopter spins, grabs and flips and combinations of each. You will be scored on the difficulty of the trick or combo. Naturally the key is timing as well as speed - if you over cook it you’ll get nothing but a face full of snow!
It’s fairly safe to say that the challenges set in the career mode will keep you addicted for quite a while, but if you need a slight variation, the Speed Pipe mode will give you some equally challenging time trials. With speed boosts, blocks and rails to grind you will find it quite tricky to stay upright for too long – which will eat into your time. As you progress the courses get harder and time to beat gets shorter. This is quite frustrating but good fun and an excellent way to keep your brain and fingers occupied for a couple of minutes each game!
Alternatively if you want a different challenge then why not try your hand at the Collect Items game. As with the other two games, you are challenged to collect a certain amount of items dotted around the course before crossing the finishing post. Some of these will be achieved through slalom of intricate corner taking, as well as jumping and making use of all the rails, ramps and blocks at your disposal.
Lastly, if beating the course isn’t the only fun you want, why not beat your friends too? With the multiplayer game you can have up to five others eating your snow! This offers a fantastic way to challenge yourself and your friends to see who’s truly champion of the slopes.
