Did you enjoy playing Suicidal Squirrels? Then you’ll be pleased to learn they’re not the only animal that’s had enough of life and require your help in their suicide mission as proven by Easter Nightmare.
In this game, the much loved Easter Bunnies (and yes, there’s more than one) have had enough of delivering chocolate eggs and being petted by adorable little children so have taken the elaborate option of needing your assistance to die in gruesome and novel manners. Much like the classic game of Lemmings, you must aid your furry friends in completing the level. But unlike Lemmings who get to escape the level you get to see the little bunnies get sliced, burned, squished, dissolved in acid and much more besides.
Your first six levels are tutorials in what the equipment does and how to use it (e.g. you have a tightrope, wall, blow-torch, jet-pack, pneumatic drill and rope). As you will probably guess they all have unique qualities and will rely on your cunning and timing to be used successfully to help you complete the level.
Speaking of levels, they are definitely going to keep you addicted and challenged for hours. No level is the same and each will test your problem solving ability to their limit. As every level increases as does the difficulty offered.
As with Suicidal Squirrels, the game’s controls are identical and you can speed up the play for the occasions when you must wait for the stragglers to get to where you want them to be before selecting the action desired.
The controls are the up, down, left, right cursor control and the select (fire) button. When you have selected the bunny of choice, you then have the option of pressing numbers on your keypad co-ordinating with the equipment number to have the bunny then use it. You’ll have to keep your eye on these rabid looking rabbits too as one slip of the cursor or overlooked hazard will result in you having to replay the entire level again.
The game keeps you guessing throughout as there are plenty of options however you end up being lulled into a false sense of security at points and suddenly realise that you should have done one thing rather than the other. This gets a little frustrating at times but does keep you playing and trying to win.
Again the controls are a little awkward as I had found with the Suicidal Squirrels game. You would point at one bunny and end up highlighting another which could cause you to slip up unnecessarily and cost you the game. This isn’t terrible as you have unlimited attempts to complete the level, but does make you frustrated at times too.
In a chocolate egg-shell, this is a cracking puzzle game which will keep you hooked and tickle the little devious bone in your body. This game is able to be played and appreciated at any time of year (not just Easter) and will certainly keep you coming back for more, and with so many levels to complete, you will have even more sadistic fun.
