If you are looking for practice as a bit of a hitman or special agent then you’re in luck – why not take a look at Counter Attack - the mobile gaming answer to your violent dreams!
This is a very rapid fire game where you can play against one to six bots (enemy soldiers) within a designated location. You can pick between being either a terrorist or a CT-Force solder (I guess they would be the good guys?!) You must be quick to move as these games are timed so although it may be wise for you to duck and run, you can only win by taking the opponents out before they return the favour – with interest!
The enemy (no matter whether they’re a terrorist or CT-Force agent) are pretty stupid. Unfortunately they do tend to run around and not take cover and indeed will often run in a direct line towards you. Now, I don’t know everything about military training here, but aren’t you supposed to avoid being shot if possible? Well, in any case, once you’ve got your sights set on them a few rounds in their direction will usually mean they will fall to the floor and not get back up again (at least until the next game).
OK, I am being a little mean when I say the opponents are stupid, they are undoubtedly pretty good at finding you even when you think you’ve found a good hiding place. As you would expect this uncanny ability to hunt you and flush you out can be pretty bad for your health. The more opponents you are up against, the harder the game will get for yourself and you will be definitely showing some skills which any army officer would be proud of if you can defeat more than four bots at a time.
To aid you in your quest to take out these seemingly unlimited enemy, for every match you win and enemy you take out you are rewarded with money which you can use to buy ammo. This to my cost was something I’d failed to realise and in mid-fight I found myself out of ammunition and wondering what seemed to be the problem – key pointer – be sure to buy lots of ammo (you can do this at any stage in the fight).
You can use either a side-arm or swap between that and your main rifle – which offers you the scope to take more accurate shots at distance.
A bug that I experienced was that although I thought I was safe behind walls when running from the enemy – I still was able to receive damage to my health. This certainly may be quite realistic but also quite annoying when you don’t seem to have the same magic bullet effect to your own shots.
The graphics are well rendered and certainly in the same style as Doom in terms of movements and overall action and feel. I’d suggest getting familiar with the operational keys as they can get a little getting used to and may mean you end up running instead of rotating between weapons.
A nice touch this game offers is the practice map besides the eight other maps for you to master. Although it’s not necessary for you to start on this level, it is certainly helpful in improving your finesse and basic/advanced skills.
In brief, this is a great little game which will keep you engaged for quite some time but in honesty I’d suggest Contr Terrorism 3D any day if you’re looking to have something a little more in-depth.
Rating: 68%
Positives
Fast action frenzied fun
Good graphics
Negatives
A bit repetitive and small maps doesn’t help
Stupid enemy
Easy to win if you buy a good primary weapon (e.g. one shot = one kill)
Not two player (an opportunity missed I think)
