Zombie Highway

Zombie Highway – How far can you go before the zombies get you?

Nearly everyone has seen a scene in a zombie movie where it’s the hero, a car, a firearm and a swarm of zombies. Now, it’s your turn to be in the driving seat and show the moviemakers how it’s really done without leaving the comfort of your chair.
The game’s a pretty basic one; ahead of you is a straight road, and you are in charge of a black car which you must take as far as you can by avoiding the roadblocks and mass of zombies. Unfortunately as mindless as these brain-eating undead are, their rather basic tactic of tackling your car and tipping it over is an effective one. Fortunately however your driving skills and itchy trigger finger can help even up the score.
As you drive along (you have no control over the speed of the vehicle – only the steering), to the sides of this highway are zombies laying in wait for any passing vehicle (aka you!). As you get into range, zombies leap at your car and try to stick to the side of the vehicle and use their weight and momentum to help tip the car onto its side (and eat your brains). The roadblocks pose as both a help and a hazard. Using the roadblocks to your advantage, you can help knock off any of the attached zombies by swiping the car along the side of blockade. However, if you’re not too careful, your vehicle will plough right into the stationary vehicles bringing your car to an abrupt end and, yup you guessed it, so to the game!
As touched upon, you have a variety of weapons to help improve your odds of survival. As you reach certain milestones, e.g. killed a certain number of zombies and travelled a set distance, you will unlock more weapons which you can use to your advantage. The basic pistol is not very powerful but with a seemingly endless supply of bullets, you can blast quite a few monsters to kingdom come.
As you progress through the game you will encounter bigger and more dangerous zombies, like tougher ones (which take more hits to kill or knock off the side of your car), fat zombies (who can rock your car over quite easily) and red zombies (which can regenerate their health if not finished off quickly). During your game you can switch weapons to ensure you deal with the danger using the right tool for the job.
Steering the vehicle is done by tilting the device from side to side, whilst firing is done by tapping the co-ordinated red arrows on the side of the screen. Just remember, don’t waste the ammo as this game gets less forgiving as you progress.
Overall, this is a pretty good game which will keep you playing for hours. As this is a simple game to follow and get hooked on, it is one of the kinds which once you’ve got it under your skin, there’s no way you will be able to put it down.

Positives
Hugely addictive
Challenging even on the easiest of the three settings
A plethora of weapons to choose from
Tests your driving and shooting skills

Negatives
Drinking and driving or driving whilst using your mobile phones are both bad but driving and shooting zombies is ok?!
A little basic graphically
Quite repetitive
Could have been more atmospheric
