Reckless Racing

Reckless Racing – Breakneck Rednecks!

Just about everyone recalls the original Dukes of Hazzard, or at least have seen the remake in the cinema which saw Hillbilly Americans thrashing their motor (General Lee) and generally keeping one step ahead of the law.
Well, with anyone who has a soft spot for some harmless racing action based on some various dirt track circuits, you’ll instantly find yourself warming to this title too.
There are three difficulty settings, just about as many driving control set up options, and a bevy of vehicles to race with (and against) – all with their own colourful, if not slightly stereotypical redneck behind the wheel. In terms of what is left out of the game, well, apart from the chewing tobacco and crash helmet, not much at all!
This is a well rounded game with plenty of full throttle action to keep you busy. For me, I found easy and medium level a total breeze (finishing over a minute ahead of the slowest on the course on some instances). The main difference between the different difficulty levels are where you start on the grid and how responsive and fast the other vehicles are.
In terms of controls, you have an abundance of options available, everything from using the handheld’s tilt option to turn left and right to using the touch screen alone to turn, accelerate and brake/reverse.
Although this isn’t a terribly inspiring top-down racer there are certainly some nice touches which keep it in the top of its class. Most noticeably the graphics are really detailed and even the tyre marks from all the heavy turns remain for the duration of the race. Similarly, the way the camera moves and accommodates the best vantage point as you zoom around the track, is really neat.
If racing against five others is not for you, why not race against the clock making deliveries? In this mode you have to follow the map and arrows to pick up a trailer and then take this to the desired location wherever it may appear on the course. As soon as you deposit the trailer in the right spot you must then dash off to the next collection point. This is then repeated over and over again until the times up.
Overall, this is a nice game to play and highly entertaining. Although it’s not re-writing the history books, it’s certainly well worth playing. The only downsides are that the opponents even on the hardest setting aren’t that unbeatable and you can’t modify your vehicle to make the race or game more entertaining. Similarly, you can’t change the amount of laps, so races tend to be over in just a few minutes.
