Angry Birds Halloween – Help the birds pick on pumpkin piggies
One of the most popular games to emerge on the apps circuit has been given a spooky twist in time for the Halloween season. For those of you not familiar with Angry Birds, the premise is quite simple, use a variety of kamikaze birds to annihilate everything in your path.
The Halloween version is virtually identical to the original version, the only real difference is the targets are green coloured pigs and there’s a spooky backdrop and sound effects playing to build up the tension and atmosphere.
As with the original version, it’s superbly addictive, hugely entertaining and frustrating in equal measures. The first few missions serve as more of a lesson in how to use the birds to their most devastating capabilities, but once you’ve been shown the ropes, you’re thrown right into the deep end and rapidly have to learn all the devious ways to knock down the barriers the cunning possessed piggies have put in the way and ensure that the birds are victorious.
Now, I was always lead to believe that the natural enemy of pigs would be one mean wolf who has a healthy set of lungs, so it comes as a bit of a surprise watching birds taking on the green porkers.
To play the game you can use the zoom in and out abilities using the typical pinch gestures on the screen. Similarly you can scroll from left to right by stroking the screen in the appropriate way. When you are happy with the plan of attack is press and hold the screen around the catapult device where your bird is sitting. Dragging your finger back will increase the power and moving the finger up or down will adjust the angle your bird will take. Once you release the bird, a line is left to help you with your next shot.
During the flight of your bird you get the choice of triggering their super ability. For example, one bird gains speed, another lays an egg (bomb) and another can divide into a flock. To set off the ability you must push up on the screen at the time you would like the bird to do its trick.
To complete each level you must clear the screen of all the pigs using the birds provided. If you do this task, you’ll be rewarded with a score for all the spare birds left over and all the damage dealt in the level. Failure to kill all the pigs and you will have to repeat the level again.
Overall, this is going to be a great addition to all Angry Bird game fans. Surprisingly it’s a great title in its own right too and not just a quick fix for the Halloween market.
